IEC 62368-1 Standard

Audio/video, information and communication technology equipment

Part 1: Safety requirements

IEC 62368-1 standard is one of the safety standards published in recent years. This standard is manufacturer-oriented, safety testing (LVD Test) standard.

IEC 62368-1 standard covers audio, video, information and communication technologies and safety tests (LVD Test) of office machines, including commercial devices and devices connected to them, with a rated voltage not exceeding 600V, powered by batteries or mains.

Some of the devices within the scope of IEC 62368-1; smart phones, personal computers, printers, scanners, three-dimensional printers, modems, routers, televisions, calculators, copiers, etc.

LVD Test - Safety Tests

Electrical safety tests (LVD Test) are tests to verify the compliance of any commercial electrical product with the relevant standards. Various governments and organizations have developed requirements for electrical products sold worldwide. In most markets, a product must meet safety standards (LVD Test).

To verify compliance with these standards (LVD Test), the product should meet the requirements for ;

High Voltage Test

Insulation Resistance Test

Earth Continuity Test

Leakage Current Test

Classification of Energy Resources

Classification of Energy Resources: There are six types of energy resources examined within the standard of IEC 62368-1, these are;

Electric energy,

Thermal energy (exacerbation and fire spread),

Chemical energy,

Kinetic energy,

Thermal energy (accessible hot surfaces),

Radiation

The classification of energy resources is carried out through examinations and measurements, which include all sections of the relevant equipment.

Energy sources are divided into three classes;

Energy Source

Effect on the Body

Effect on Flammable Materials

Class 1

Can be felt but not painful

Ignition not possible

Class 2

Painful but not hurt.

Ignition is possible but flame spread is limited.

Class 3

Hurts.

Ignition is possible and rapid flame spread

Dielectric Strength Test

It is applied between the power circuit of the test sample and the protective ground circuit. The test voltage must have a rated frequency of 50 Hz or 60 Hz. The greatest test voltage should be applied to the insulations to control the effectiveness of the insulations. In the event of a destructive discharge, standard requirements are not met.

Insulation Resistance Test

The insulation resistance measured with the 500 V direct current (D.C.) Applied between the power circuit conductors of the test sample and the ground circuit.The result should not be less than 2 MΩ.

Earth Continuity Test

In earth continuity, the reliability of the grounding system of the test sample is checked. The resistance of each protective earth circuit between the protective earth terminal and the areas of the sample that are expected to be earthed should be measured with an appropriate test equipment. The test result is evaluated as positive or negative according to the values specified in the standard.

Leakage Current Test

The leakage current test is the measurement of the current flowing between the accessible surfaces of the test sample and the soil with a suitable test equipment under normal, abnormal and error conditions. As a result of the experiment, controls are carried out within the limits given by the standard.
